A large rabbit hutch is generally considered to be 6ft (180cm) or longer. The RSPCA recommends a minimum hutch size of 6ft x 2ft x 2ft (180cm x 60cm x 60cm) for a pair of average-sized rabbits, so anything at or above this qualifies as a proper large hutch.

Do I need a large hutch for a single rabbit?

Yes. Even a solitary rabbit needs enough space to take three full hops, stand fully upright and stretch out. A 6ft hutch is the recommended minimum for one rabbit, and larger breeds such as Flemish Giants or French Lops will need considerably more space still.

What should I look for in a large rabbit hutch?

Look for a solid plywood construction (not thin OSB), tongue-and-groove or fully overlapping roof panels that shed rain, galvanised wire mesh rather than chicken wire, and a separate sleeping compartment. A built-in run or the option to attach one is a significant bonus.
